Work at Home Jobs for disabled people – Job opportunities for Americans with disabilities

During tough economic times, employment for people with disabilities are even harder to get. Millions of job seekers are waiting many months or even years to get a job. Today’s world of computers and high-speed Internet access mean new choices and good paying options for people who want the flexibility and convenience of careers that don’t require commuting to an office, or working for someone else.

It’s hard enough to be unemployed, it’s tragic to be disabled and unemployed. Jobs at home is a popular choice for many people with a disability. It can be much simpler to work something flexible at home than to deal with whatever limitations your disability may cause at an office or other place of work.

National Telecommuting Institute (NTI) -  NTI is a nonprofit organization specializing in staffing Americans who need work at home jobs due to a disability. NTI is non-profit organization that has worked for over 15 years with employers, Social Security Disability Insurance, and other vocational rehabilitation services that work with disabled individuals.

Lift Inc. – Since 1975, Lift, Inc.’s sole mission has been to hire and place information technology and information management professionals who have disabilities. Lift is a nonprofit corporation that combines specialized business and technology experience with expertise at recruitment, assessment, training and accommodation to give ambitious and highly capable men and women a vocational lift. Lift has placed professionals in positions such as: programmer-analyst, systems-analyst, software engineer, business analyst, technical writer, technical specialist, network administrator, computer support specialist, data security specialist, database administrator, database manager, quality assurance specialist, CBT training developer, E-commerce specialist and website designer.

Office of Disability Employment Policy – The Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP) was authorized by Congress in the Department of Labor’s FY 2001 appropriation. The Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP) provides national leadership by developing and influencing disability employment-related policies and practices affecting an increase in the employment of people with disabilities.

Job Accommodation Network – JAN provides free consulting services for individuals with physical or intellectual limitations that affect employment. Services include one-on-one consultation about job accommodation ideas, requesting and negotiating accommodations, and rights under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and related laws. Although JAN does not help individuals find employment, JAN does provide information for job seekers.

Melwood is a dynamic nonprofit that creates jobs and opportunities to improve the lives of people with disabilities. Now approaching our 50th year, Melwood serves more than 2,400 people with disabilities in the greater Washington, DC area. Melwood offers job opportunities for more than 1,200 people with disabilities through partnerships with the AbilityOne Program and community employers.
