Medical transcriptionist jobs at home

Apparently medical transcriptionist jobs at home are one of the fastest-growing professions today, and ranks in the Top 5 positions for Work at Home Careers in the USA. I can say that I also had a medical transcriptionist job at home once, for about 6 hours. And it was not really at home.

When looking for a job, as a fresh graduate, I’ve come across an ad for a job requiring only computer skills and medium English knowledge. I’ve come at the interview which was actually a test, to see if I can handle the tasks. There were at lest 5 people like me, on trial, in a large room, filled with computers and people typing, then a lady explained in what consisted our job. There were thousands of medical charts filled by hand in Italian, if I recall well. Our task was to fill an electronic form with the data wrote on those papers. I was to be paid by the number of forms completed (the minimum was 300 a day). This task was completed in about 4 hours by an experienced typist, or it could take the whole day if you were not fast enough. Needless to say that I’ve abandoned the job after a couple of hours with my back stiffed and my eyes burning. But there were people doing this work like little robots, almost never moving. All my admiration and respect for them. But this is only an example.

True medical transcriptionist jobs at home involve some medical knowledge, training programs and some experience in the medical system. As I find out a medical transcriptionist is a medical language specialist who interprets and transcribes dictation by medical professionals. This dictation covers pretty much everything that takes place between the health care provider and the patient. Usually, the information is recorded either into tape or onto digital voice processing systems. The process of medical transcription is transferring this information using word processing.

So when you are looking for training programs make sure that the one you choose has a strong grounding in Pharmacology, anatomy, English grammar and practice dictation tapes from doctors. And, like all jobs at home, talk to people who have done this job, and see if they are satisfied with the financial income, support, and materials they received. As you can see is a demanding job, which will not be learned within a few weeks. If it is professionally executed it might be a long time career.
